HOW TO PRODUCE OXBLOOD EMULSION PAINT
To produce oxblood paint, mix red oxide pigment with black oxide pigment, incremental amounts of black oxide and red oxide pigment will create a rich, dark brownish-red shade.
Using pigments such as iron oxide (red ochre) along with black pigments can achieve this color. The key is to start with a red base and gradually darken it.
Key Steps for Producing Oxblood Paint:
Base Color: Start with a deep red pigment or base, such as maroon, crimson, or red oxide, rather than a bright primary red.
Darkening Agents: Gradually add small amounts of black or dark brown (like burnt umber) to the red base.
Pigment Combination: Oxblood can be achieved by blending red and black oxide pigments to get the desired brownish-red tone.
Mixing Technique: Stir thoroughly between additions to check the color depth. For a deeper, more violet-leaning oxblood, a tiny amount of blue can be added to the red base.
Testing: Apply a test patch and allow it to dry completely, as the color may change after drying.
